New hair, new rings, new boots

Today's outfit for yet again more Christmas shopping (actually getting really sick of it now) and trip to the hairdressers. This was a bad choice as there was freezing fog today and my legs were a bit cold. I invested in a pair of riding style over the knee boots today, I'm still a little undecided about them but my hairdresser was wearing a gorgeous pair and she put me in the notion. No doubt I will be wearing them tomorrow, as I have to wear mt new stuff as soon as I get it. Also got my engagement and wedding rings back today after being re-dipped as they are white gold. I can't stop looking at them, they are like brand new rings- and let's face it diamonds match every outfit!!

Jumper - New Look
Denim Shirt - Topshop
Skirt - H&M
Boots - Jones Bootmaker

So this is the new hair, now I know it's not a massive change but because it was a red shade before so my hairdresser didn't want to go too blond as she though it may turn pink so we went easy on the blond. I actually like the colour it's quite subtle, and probably not everyone would even notice it, but it's just enough to lift it and make it a bit more interesting while I'm growing it. I may go a bit blonder in the next few weeks, but it will wash up lighter over time so I'll see how it goes. I got a very small trim too just to get rid of  the dead ends.

The elusive blue jean

I always have a essentials list at the start of every season. This list doesn't contain luxury or designer items that I swoon over and long to have, no that would be too easy, what I actually do is picture an item in my head and then spend months trawling the Internet and traipsing around shops looking for it only to find that usually it doesn't exist (because it only exists in my head) and I have to settle for something similar. My sis in law says I should be a fashion designer as I'm the only person she knows who thinks of what they want to buy first then tries to find it, but surely I'm not the only person to do this?!

So here was the list I've had since about the end of the summer:
  • Black real leather waterfall jacket
  • Black leather ankle boots
  • Black suede court shoes
  • Mid blue skinny jeans

There's quite a lot of black items as I don't have a lot of black in my wardrobe, but for some reason I have been drawn to it for Autumn/winter. I always used to think black was too safe and too easy and liked the challenge of dressing in anything but black, but I've just realised how essential a few black items are.

So far I've ticked 3 of the four items of my list, but the mid blue skinny jeans, as common as they sound are proving very elusive. I bought the leather jacket and boots about 6- 8 weeks back and I ticked off the suede courts last week from ASOS. They are exactly the same style as my nude courts, but they were always tight on my left foot thanks to a long fourth toe, I've often thought of cutting the little bugger off - especially when struggling to walk in a gorgeous pair of designer shoes that just happen to have 50% off. Well they do say fashion is pain!! Anyways I ordered them on the off chance that they may fit a bit better than the nude ones, and what do you know they did, and they ticked all the boxes, that is, round toe but not too round, suede, not too high and not too low and they look good with tights.

Here's the three items I have ticked off so far.

On to item four then -the perfect blue jeans. This tends to change from season to season, last season it was a pair of blue boyfriend jeans I was after (no I didn't find them either) this season it's perfect blue skinnies, I figure it's a bit too cold at the mo' to wear boyfriend jeans as I think they look best with a bit of ankle showing.

I'm very particular about the colour of my blue jeans, I find a lot of the blue jeans out there tend to look very cheap as they are a real wishy washy colour. The shade I'm after tends to be described as 'blue blue' or 'mid blue' which is a nice bright blue. I have a pair of jeggings (which are getting a bit too holey and therefore draughty) and a pair of diesel straight leg jeans this colour but I really need a pair of skinnies. They also have to have no (or very little) stitching on the pockets, don't ask me why I just have something against this. I don't want them too low either, Topshop Baxter's are perfect in this department but I don't like the shade of blue they come in, and they also have to be a bit distressed or worn looking. These are similar kinda what I'm looking for, although they're not spot on. So it looks like the search will continue, I will not be beaten this time!!

Weekend round up

I had a pretty hectic weekend (nothing new there) Friday was spent shopping, I'm only making start on Christmas shopping now,  I forgot to take an outfit photo, and to be honest I can't even remember what I wore. Saturday was a day of housework and I took my little boy for yet another haircut. It was absolutely Baltic so I wanted to wear a cosy coat and new boots so the rest of my outfit was based around that. Looking back now I look like a bit of a farmers wife and don't really like my outfit, but the only person who saw me was the hairdresser ( and you guys too of course!). I got the boots on Friday, I'm a sucker for a navy shoe as it's so hard to find them so I couldn't resist, they're a cross between a brogue and an ankle boot, but looking back they are probably over priced at £125 quid, so I going to need to get quite a few wears out of them.

Khaki jacket - River Island
Navy jumper - Primark
Cream jeans - H&M
Navy boots - Local Boutique
Bird print Scarf - Warehouse

Saturday night I went out with the girls for a long awaited catch up, it's been planned from about August. I wanted something dressy yet comfy as we were going for a meal at an Italian restaurant with amazing food and I bloat like a bitch after eating (thanks gluten and dairy intolerance) so I felt the leather skirt dressed the silk shirt up enough and as an added bonus it was warm.

Silk shirt - ASOS
Leather skirt - Topshop
Boots - New Look

This was Sunday's and Monday's outfit, albeit with a change of top, we took our little boy to the pool on Sunday, todays top tip btw-  the swimming pool and hangovers do not mix! I was only dressed a few hours so recycled it today and added a polka dot top and scarf instead of yesterday's black blouse. I took today off work to do some more Christmas shopping, I actually ended up doing more clothes shopping for myself than anything. Although I have to say there's very little in the shops other than glitter tops and peplum dresses and if your not into that, then there's really not much else out there.

Leather jacket - Oasis
Polka dot top - Next
Pink jeans - New Look
Boots - Jones Bootmaker
Scarf - Peacocks

Here's some of today's buys. I got the pleather leggings and yellow jacket in H&M. The actual jacket I got isn't on the website but this one is very similar. I've been after a yellow jacket since I the gorgeous Zara yellow from last season, but I snoozed big time and missed out on it, so I'm well pleased with myself now. The leggings are great quality for £25 quid, and I can't wait to break them out over Christmas. Yip, that's another pair of navy shoes (told you I had a problem) there was 30% off in Barratts today and well I'm only human. The majority of stuff I bought was from H&M and it's not on the website so your just going to have to wait to see it in outfit posts.

Stuck in a hair rut

I'm currently trying to grow out my hair from a Frankie Saturdays style cut. When I was about seven and a half months pregnant I took a mad notion to go for the chop. My hair was way down may back before this so it was a bit of a shock to a lot of people. So here's the before and after (excuse the crappy quality pics, I don't posses a lot of pics of myself)

I tend to do this every few years, in the last 10 years I've had it cropped about 3 times. I'm fortunate in that my hair grows quick, which is a real pain when its short as I have to get it trimmed every few weeks to keep it in shape, but at the minute it's just not growing fast enough. I had planned on growing it until just before Christmas and getting a restyle, but I don't think its going to be at the length I thought it would be at.
I have a natural wave in my hair so it takes me quite a bit of time styling my hair especially when it's cut into a lot of layers so I want something that's a bit handier. My hair also tends to be be a bit frizzy so I go through a vat of frizz-ease every month, although I also have to use quite a bit on my sons hair, apart from the colour he has exactly the same hair as me, it's been cut at least ten times and he's not even 18 months yet. I had to get it cut when he was about 6 months old- cue much dismay from family members about how I couldn't cut his hair until he was one, but when strangers were mistaking him for a girl when he wasn't wearing 'boy' colours I know it was time to go for the chop, anyways I digress.

I'm also toying with the idea of getting a fringe, but I'm not totally sold on this, I've had a few fringes in the past but again with the whole fast growing hair thing it can be a bit of a nightmare keeping it just right. I love Zooey Deschanel's hair on New Girl, it really makes me yearn for the good ole days of long thick locks, I think I'll grow it a bit longer then this is the kind of style I will go for.

Big time hair envy here

I had an ombre colour for a short while just before I went for the chop last time and I was thinking of going for it again just to add a bit of interest while I grow it. These are my favourite inspiration pics, although I probably wouldn't go anywhere near as blonde as the second one. Would love to know what y'all think.

Queen of the Castle

We spent the past weekend at Lough Eske Castle Donegal, it was so relaxing, just what the doctor ordered, it was my husbands Birthday present - I always tend to buy presents I can use too, he's slowly catching onto me though!

It was great just to switch off for a few days and get away from it all. We've been under a great deal of stress the past few months so to be able to just lounge about and consume our own body weight in food was just perfect.

The castle was originally constructed in the 1860's and was renovated and extended in 2007, the interior is stunning, it's really what you would expect, although at times it's a bit OTT, but at least it's authentic. The food was amazing- I've never tasted anything like the wild mushroom soup before and would go back for that alone. The only thing I could fault was the spa facilities, the pool is quite basic and only has a steam room, it definitely wouldn't hold a patch to Galgorm Resort in Ballymena. But everything else was 5*, especially the service so I'm counting the day's until I go back (minus child the next time though).

This was Saturdays outfit for exploring the grounds, the main objective here was warm feet as I knew it was going to be wet, these boots done the trick. I can't for the life of me remember where I got them so they're obviously ancient but at least I had no worries about destroying them.

This was what I changed into after my beach outfit of jeans and trainers on sunday to head home, a stretchy skirt was the main objective here, plenty of room for le ole food baby!

A little bit of luxury

Just a quick outfit post from today while I have wifi. We're currently lying up
in the lap of luxury in a 5* hotel in Donegal- it was well overdue let me tell you.

My oxblood skinnies took me from day to night, channeling the whole capsule wardrobe thing for once. I wore them with my wedge trainers today and a tan blazer from next, with a denim shirt underneath. After a quick mess about in the pool, in which my wee man kept shouting 'bath!' much to everyone's amusement, we went for dinner which by the way was devine. I change my top for an Asos bird print blouse and the obligatory bloggers bubble necklace.

Soz for the crappy quality pics, iPhone 3 is dire and hotel rooms always have the worst lighting.

A little treasure

I bought this little set at a craft fair I was at on Saturday, I've never been into china cups as they never hold enough tea for me, I use a massive mug that's bordering on a bowl, but when I seen this I though it was simply stunning, the pattern was so unusual. I just bought the one set but I know they have more in their shop so I think I'm going to have to get at least four of them. This set was quite reasonable compared to the rest, but they were more of the traditional flowery style so they would have had a lot more time spent on them. This was a steal at a fiver I think.

Not entirely sure if I'll ever use them but its nice to look at if nothing else, maybe I should hold a little tea party once I get a full set, any excuse for cakes and a gossip!

I also bought honeycomb and 'yella man' but don't ask me what it is, all I know is it's made in Ballycastle on the north west coast and sold in fairs throughout Northern Ireland, it looks disgusting (it could pass for a melted yellow crayon) but I can assure you its not. The honeycomb on the other hand was very strong, I was expecting it to taste just like the inside of a Crunchie bar but it had a real bitter after taste, so I think it wont disappear as quick as the yella man.

A welly good weekend

Stripey top - Only
Mustard jumper - Primark
Navy gilet - Primark
Jeans - Diesel
Wellies- Hunter

I had a great weekend past despite the fact that I spent a lot of it in wellies, this was Friday's outfit which was borne out of pure comfort and warmth. We're building our own house at the minute and as we live on site it's a great opportunity to get stuck in and be involved at every stage. So I wore this while I was outside, and changed into navy converse when I went shopping. I'm trying to spend very little on clothes with Christmas coming up but needed some nice warm things for the wee man so at least I got the shopping buzz without feeling guilty.

Khaki jumper- New Look
Animal print scarf - New Look
Military Jacket- New Look
Jeggings- Asos
Chelsea boots -Ebay

This was Saturdays outfit, I went to a craft fair in my old school, it was great but for some stupid reason I thought crafts and toddlers went well together, so I actually didn't buy as much as would have liked too. I was hoping to get a few Christmas pressies sorted, but alas it wasn't to be. I did come away with a few goodies and a wotsit covered baby- those crisps get everywhere, eyebrows eyelashes, under fingernails you name it and they're on it!

Silk vest - Oasis
Print skirt - Next
Heels- Barratts

We went out for dinner on Saturday night, it was lovely but eating and then drinking isn't the best move, I was so full up all night I could hardly move, and I don't know what possessed me to go with bare legs, I was totally freezing, I think that's the last time my legs will be out for a while. I love the print on this skirt but its so tight at the bottom and there's no lycra in it so I think I will have to get a split put in it before I wear it again, I was walking like a penguin all night, which is never a good look for anyone.

Jumper - H&M
Skirt - H&M
Wool coat - Next
Wedge boots - Hispanitas

So on to Sundays outfit, I'm wearing my new H&M jumper, I seen it on Doro from nowshine and just had to have it, it's navy with a peplum and is extremely warm so whats not to love. I have a bit of an obsession with navy and tend to use it as a neutral rather than black and I love the challenge of finding nice navy pieces as black can be a bit predictable and boring at times. How tired do I look here, this was after a day traipsing around Belfast with my two men who both hate shopping - so you can imagine what way that went (I'll give you a clue, it wasn't very enjoyable) I was in bed about ten minutes after these photos.

Weekend wears

This is my Saturday outfit, we took our little boy to McDonald's and soft play area, so I wanted something comfy so I could get in the ball pool with him (any excuse eh!). It was so dull and dreary outside so I wanted a bit of colour in my outfit, hence my bright red jumper. I'm a real sucker for a breton stripe so this is one of my many stripey tops. I'm wearing my wedge trainers, I know these are a real marmite item but I have to say I absolutely love them, I think the appeal to my inner tomboy.

We also went to the cinema Saturday night and I didn't bother changing as I love to be comfy in the cinema and these denim jeggings are great for that job. The hole on the knee has grown a bit recently, probably due to rolling around on the floor with the wee man, he also likes to tickle me through the holes so I think its getting bigger by the week. I don't know what I'll do when it gets too big as I love these jeggings (hate that word) as they are actual denim but they don't have the same bulkiness of jeans up top.

Wedge trainers - Asos

This was Sunday's outfit, I always try to wear a skirts or a dress on a Sunday and didn't let the fact that I was going to watch a football match stop me. I had two pairs of tights on here, as well as trainer socks and multiple layers under my jacket, so that's why I look a bit bulky. The leather jacket made another appearance this weekend (don't know how I survived without it before) this time under a zara waistcoat so it had the khaki jacket/leather sleeve look. I toyed with the idea of buying a jacket like that but thought it may only be a fleeting trend so this way I get the look but still have two separate items of clothing that are obviously more versatile.

Leather love

This was what I wore out to dinner on Sunday evening, I didn't have time to photograph it then so I just fired it on this morning for a quick outfit post. I love these jeans as they're nice and stretchy, which always helps when going out to that particular restaurant as I usually leave looking like there's an extra member of the family on the way - damn food babies!

I'm wearing my new waterfall leather jacket, which I'm so in love with, I have a few fake leather jackets but to be honest I don't really like them that much and rarely wear them, (although I'm considering getting some fake leather leggings). I think this jacket will be a wardrobe staple for a few years to come. (By the way theres 20% off full price items in Oasis at the mo)
